On behalf of the Global One Health Network Executive Committee, Dr. Ronald Labonté and Dr. Hélène Carabin sent a Statement of Support to the Mi’kmaq fishers of Sipekne’katik First Nation, calling on the federal government to intervene, recognise the traditional fishery affirmed by Canada’s Supreme Court, and to stop the violence of commercial fishermen. This letter was sent to the Chief and Council of the Sipekne’katik First Nation, the Prime Minister, Premier Stephen McNeil, Federal Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations Carolyn Bennett, Federal Minister of Fisheries Bernadette Jordan, Nova Scotia Minister of Fisheries Keith Colwell, Minister of Public Safety Bill Blair, Federal Minister of Justice David Lametti and Nova Scotia Minister of Justice Mark Furey.
